What about aliens? Why is everything split into two: real, unreal; science, fiction? Haven't we had enough of dichotomies for one lifetime? Why does the NSA have a huge black cube of a building, looking scary, sinister, impenetrable, just like alarmist, precautionary fiction? Are they *trying* to be like 1984? Is that the big joke? The joke's on us? While we're sitting here writing all these books and essays about America, and how horrible it would be if it was as horrible as, *this,* for instance, wow, really makes you think, they're busy taking notes, gleefully clucking and gabbling, saying, Yes, yes, yes, keep the ideas coming! and building our own nightmares out of the stuff of self-expression.
