At Scott's house after school. Came back into the kitchen/living room. Another friend less close was with me. I said to Scott, "let's compare sidearms. " I had just recently gotten mine, and I'm pretty sure he had not had his very long either. he said okay not quite as excited as I was. His was a 45 revolver and I fiddled with the revolving part of it, not as familiar with it. Mine was a 38 ::automatic::. "ladylike by comparison," I said. My/our other friend was just standing to my right not exactly pleased. then Scott's dad Melvin came in. He said something about how we needed to put those away. He started to explain himself, but I said no need to explain, if you say put it away, I'll put it away. But he explained himself anyway. It had something to do with not having the tool out if you weren't doing the work. He had some example, some story to tell about Scott doing some boneheaded thing relating to acrobatics. It was kind of funny but the whole thing was rather serious. The whole time Scott was just sitting there sitting back reading a magazine or something. Thing is, I was just so excited to have a sidearm. So excited that I had finally graduated into the caliber of person that they would let have a sidearm. I was so excited to finally be legitimate. To finally belong. I didn't think our other friend really got that concept.
