1. Not everything has to be about feelings, or resplendent and glistening with psycho-celestial significance. Some lines can be spent just describing the physicality of an incidental detail, or a glimpse into the mind of an observer who might never be heard from again, 2. or might. Who knows. Maybe the detail gets mentioned again, if it’s clear and vivid and comes to mind naturally. But you don’t always have to be awe-struck and gob-smacked about *everything.* 3. Sometimes just saying something plainly and leaving it at that can have a far more wistful, melancholy, bittersweet effect than anything fervently spat with philosophical swagger or mic-dropping echo to it--like for instance, “...the Dubuissons must, by then, have moved on from La Grenadière.”
