• this was the story idea i was describing to my classmates, calling it out across a snowy slope where lunch tables were arranged—what if there’s more than one kind of for example light, but we don’t realize it because our sensory inputs are so well integrated that we just naturally smooth over the differences and combine them, or, what if we have more than one kind of system for interpreting light, but we don’t even know it because, again, we just seamlessly blend them together when processing the signals in our brains. same goes for any sense input. But then something happens to make the differences apparent, and that’s why (“Eleven”-analogue) was here in our world, to figure out something important that had to do with that. I dunno, it made sense in the dream. I didn’t fit in. I was weirdly formal or distant, and didn’t get excited about the right sorts of things. But I did have a couple of friends or at least acquaintances, like the young guy that cleaned out the grease traps and stuff, and his even quieter shyer friend, and also his dog, a doberman, that most people were afraid of but who i discovered was quite friendly and came nuzzling up to me looking for affection while the kid worked and i talked to one of my few other friends, this affable black boy who wandered over to my place on the edge of campus where would sit on my fire-escape-lookin steps and chat. today i had grabbed a golf club—closest thing to a weapon i could see on short notice, because i thought it was finally going to be the day when a couple of the jock boys were going to try something, beyond just muttering and complaining about me behind my back. moments before, i had heard a couple of them talking shit about me (“man can i switch seats with you, that guy bugs me he’s weird etc etc”) but their voices carried over the ice and snow from their sled, and i turned and hollered AHH FUCK YOU!!! holding up two middle fingers and they were like HOW DID HE HEAR THAT? And one of them was like HE HAS REALLY GOOD HEARING like i was some kind of mutant freak, but they didn’t realize it was just really easy to hear people over the frozen plain.
