Bees make honey; humans make metaphor.
Like my dream of the hummingbird that landed on my cheek.
- Was both delightful and a little scary
- I felt the need to protect her & help her find a home
- I needed help, even if from nontraditional sources
- We weren’t sure we knew what we were doing but we had to keep trying anyway
- It was scary and gratifying
- We sheltered her from a storm
- She never quite left my consciousness
- I was worried when she was away and relieved when she came back
- I felt a bond that couldn’t be explained in words
- We had to learn from her what her home was supposed to be like, even though she couldn’t just tell us
- When it was time to wake up, I felt someone tapping me gently--I said “Just tell me, is there a hummingbird on my cheek?” and one of my actual, human kids from THIS world said, no, but here’s one, and touched my face
- I knew I had to leave that world, and I was crying and I said to my friend, promise me you’ll keep protecting her, and find her a home
