I was in a room in a college type setting with David Foster Wallace. He was speaking; we were listening. He was speaking with animation. I wasn't really catching everything he was saying, because I was thinking about the fact that here i was watching a guy who would be dead soon, by suicide. I was thinking about how i would be able to look back and remember this moment, this image of him, after he was dead, and so i should probably really try to soak it in. And then the image froze. He was standing there talking, and it suddenly just froze. As if some TV editor had heard my thoughts, and was trying to make it more dramatic for me. Only it wasn't a very good still shot. It was kind of an awkward side view, with him just about to open his mouth, or maybe just having closed it. It was kind of like when you pause the movie you're watching, and whoever is on screen at the moment looks funny. Later, we were talking about his albums. He had produced a few albums, and two of them were really good. I was going to go down to the music store at the college later to buy them, kinda because i felt as if i should, but mostly because i liked them. He could actually sing. He was kinda like a crooner.
Later i rode my rocking chair to a school. I thought about parking it in a regular parking spot, but changed my mind and carried it up to the school instead. There were some hooligans playing combat games in the parking lot. I passed a boy/girl pair, and since it was time to go in, the boy quickly dispatched her. Getting up off the asphalt, she looked a little bit disappointed, as if realizing that he had had the upper hand all along, and had been humoring her.
