They made slavery legal again. Technically, it was voluntaryindentured servitudebut unless you were one of the rich people, corporate or government, there were no jobs or resources available except signing one of these contracts that made you a slave for an indeterminate period of time. I had a family to take care of, so thats what I did. One day I borrowed the bosss hovercraft, and was skimming silently over lakes and boulders. There were all these snakes poking their heads out of the water as I flew by. I had never seen so many snakes in such close proximity. I wondered if I wanted to be as free as they were, or if they too had their problems at which I couldnt even guess. Later, I met up with some Capoeira people. There was a mestre there I hadnt worked with before. (He looked a little like Tucano, but rounder. Also spoke not much English.) He was teaching us some songs, and indirectly some stuff about spirit and defiance. As I was standing in my place, singing the coros, I looked at the guy next to me who also had his wrists chained together, and I knew we would be getting the chains hammered off us later. Things were beginning to change.
Earlier it was like I was a little kid again, lurking around Rose theatre while Dad was working on something out of sight. I wasnt sure I was supposed to go up the spiral stairs, but I went up anyway. There were tons of old props and fascinating junk up there.
