The bus driver offered to sell me some cash. "No thanks," I said. I dont have that kind of money. Who the hell does? Then he looked pretty hard at my card. "Its an old one," I said, which was most of the truth. He shrugged. As I made my way to my seat, I reflected a little absently on how you pretty much just have to trust people. The people that issue the cards, of course, but also any of the corporations, anyone who sends you a bill. The bus wheeled around in the sun. Across the street, they were cleaning the losers out of the caf. Then we left that scene behind, too.
