Coming out of a restaurant, in a low, thrumming town shot thru with inlets and canals. The presence of deep water everywhere, all connected to the sea. Stopped to look over a railing. Mom was there. Dolphins! I shouted. Dolphins!
First one, then another and another.... They were big! Probably eight to ten feet long, black with white underbellies. They undulated thru the water, dark in dark, until they broke the surface and it was obvious they were interacting with us. Mom was nervous. I was a little too. Two of them came over by us, heads up at our level. They let us touch them. One of them put his mouth up to my hand and kind of sucked/gummed/bit. It didn't hurt, just startled a little. Actually it felt warm and funky. The rest of our people were already across the street. We stayed and looked at the dolphins a little longer anyway. They had very odd faces, intelligent, each with its own personality, a little alien.
Later I was upstairs in a house Ann & I lived downstairs in. Nobody lived up there, but there were dirty dishes and messes everywhere, as though the place were still used, but sporadically. Risa came in. She and Dick owned the place. She chided me for messing the place up. I was really trying to remember if we had dirtied those dishes or not. Then Risa and I took a little walk. She and Dick had acquired this whole neighborhood. She showed me how they were trying to fix it up. We told each other about our troubles, and I softened toward her. We each let down our guard. We came to a wonderful, multifaceted, odd-angled, beautiful wood and glass house. I exclaimed how much I liked it. We walked a little further, and I saw that it was even bigger and more intricate than I had thought it extended even farther back than had been apparent from the front. As I was gaping, Risa hanging back a little, a man emerged from the front door and called out, Do you want to come in and have a look? I immediately said Yes! Risa didn't want to, but was persuaded. We went in. We went upstairs and out into the sun. There was a giant waterslide raft ride up here! I was so excited. Just seeing all the blue water gushing under the open sky made my spirit sing! You could see the whole town from here. It was like a picturesque, charmingly tacky mountain tourist town.
