The parking lot was gravel, covered with snow, a clearing surrounded by trees. I parked and started walking around the lake toward the snoke. It was slippery, rather steep, and I slipped, my left foot punched through the snow and I knew the ice would be thin. As my foot sunk in, I thought, well this sucks, and I kept sinking in deeper, slowly, deeper. I squunched my eyes a little bit, and sent half my awareness back to bed. I wasn't cold. I was warm. But I was half in and half out there, sinking slowly into the icy lake.
I did manage to extract myself by grabbing an outstretched root.
I walked back to my car and brushed the snow off the windows.
Some guys were going the other way, toward the lake, and I might have warned them about the deceptiveness of the edge.
