THE PASSION / IS NOW / TURN AROUND / TURN AROUND! I was walking in green hilly land lit obliquely by something like pale street light. A white rabbit with gray spots came up to me, so directly I was afraid it might be rabid, so I skittered back, but it kept dogging my heels. Finally it wandered off. I was walking with someone else, I don't know who. There was another animal that came up out of the fuzzy dark. We weren't sure what it was. It turned out to be a skunk. Just as I realized this, and was pushing my friend's shoulder, trying to get us both out of the way (who said, I don't want to die! and I said, it won't kill you, silly, it'll just smell horrible!), it sprayed, and I got it all down my left side. I was drenched, but--it didn't smell that bad. I concluded in some puzzlement that it was piss, not skunk-smell. We found a public shower house, and I went in to take a shower with all my clothes on, and somewhere in there is where we met the girl / woman, and my friend must have either turned into her or else just disappeared. So she had this house that was like an indoor alley. Orange carpet, orange light, cheap dark panelling. This girl/woman lived there, long hair, distraught psyche, slightly crazy around the mouth. Chris kind of liked her though I think he was a little scared of her disorderliness. I liked her too but in a different way. I must have said something to her in conversation (were we drunk? not exactly) about my ambivalence about sexuality, because later when she was getting ready to go in the dark bedroom off to the left to have sex with Chris, she came up to me in almost a moist embrace, said, "If you had sexuality, I would [invite you too]" I said, "Huh? I have sexuality!" And she said okay, so I went in there but Chris got on the bed and the girl and I sat on the floor talking about taking some pills. Chris was slightly disgruntled and I was only very slightly feeling guilty about that. I could see his sock feet from where I was sitting. He argued that the pills could be bad for us. They were some prescription thing for her, some hormone or some thing. I asked her if it would do anything for me. She didn't seem really sure, but encouraged me to take one or more anyway, which I was getting ready to do but I don't know if I ever did. I kneaded Chris's feet thru his socks. A threesome involving your own brother? Well, why not! Then from a doorway leading to a lighter shade of orange hall behind the apartment came this man, this gray man with keen eyes who was our favorite candidate for the senate. His passing through inflamed in me the passion of the revolution, and I went outside to join the straggling but slowly growing gaggle of people chanting, The Passion is Now, Turn Around, Turn Around! I was chanting louder than anyone, plus I was spinning around and doing cartwheels and clapping, going up to people at the sidewalk cafe and clapping in their face to get them riled, going up to the window of the indoor restaurant and chanting at the people through the smoky glass. It was still night. Finally going up to a parked limousine/cop car, a sleek charcoal grey shark of a vehicle with the windows all sealed up, and brooding, gangster-looking men of official power inside coolly disdainful. I chanted at them, I clapped at them, wondering briefly why I was being like this, until I saw them, as I knew they would, bring their handguns up into plain view, then I cartwheeled away. Went back inside to get Chris and the girl involved, hell, they should be as excited about all this as I was, why weren't they--but our candidate for senator was motionless, and my fears confirmed: he was dead, in fact he had turned into a cardboard cutout and I held him, almost an embrace, then put him up on the bare masonry wall.
