i was watching a movie in a movie theatre with brick walls. it was around 3 oclock. i had been bike riding around a cool city with someone of sibling/friend calibre. i was afraid i should leave before seeing the movie because dinner was probably going to be ready soon and we were meeting someone and annie might be mad. but the movie was interesting. we had thought about renting it before. i told myself at least now i knew we should definitely rent it. i had spent $3.50 on it. but i didnt want to walk out.
brother and sister get or have identical jewelry boxes with mostly costume jewelry in them from somewhere (?). it turns out that brothers actually had secret super diamonds concealed in the pieces in his, and the (slightly older) daughters didnt.
what they do.
They should have involved me more, you know, she says, narrating, but they didnt. I tried rearranging mine, making them more interesting and attractive [especially to the father], but it was no use.
The mother notices the daughters behavior the most, but is not able or willing to do much about it.
A scene when they are moving out of their old house: everybody files out laden with boxes and luggage: father, brother, youngest sister, mother--then older daughter looks out the front door at them, slams door and disappears inside house. Mother stops about halfway down the walkway, looks back, worried, then walks on after the others. In a moment, the door reopens, and out comes the older daughter with a mountain of boxes and luggage: she is carrying all her own stuff by herself.
What we know who are watching the movie, in fact it was one of the first scenes, a flashback before the characters awareness, is: the diamonds were actually meant for the daughter, by whatever strange, historical benefactor put them in there. It was really her jewelry box that had them, but they got mixed up somehow.
