dreamed that chris & i were in the military only (we had hitchhiked or something, and ended up there sort of accidentally) it was more like prison and the barracks, which were complete with gossip and clique networks like a college dorm, were Central High in Cape. If you tried to leave without authorization, they would shoot at you, and they rarely gave authorizations. You had to account for where you were all the time. I got in trouble for being late for work, but I couldnt think of a way to quit. Then one day, CJ and I both found opportunities to go far away, and work at these jobs on the ocean, having to do with ships somehow, only mine also had to do with woodworking, and it was in a place very sunny and warm that we were headed. Amazingly enough, it appeared that this one time we could just walk off the base and either no one would see or perhaps even if they did they would think we knew what we were doing and thus would not shoot at us. On my way out, I saw Nancy talking on the phone and she agreed to see about taking care of the cat that had been living in my dorm room. (though it was not 100% a sure thing, and just seeing the cat had reminded me--i felt a twinge of guilt at not thinking of it earlier) So Chris went to his ship, and I went to my woodworking class, but after a little while we found that these jobs were not quite as thrilling or easy or SOMETHING as we had planned, and Chris decided, then shortly after I also decided though I do not remember making the decision to go back to Cape. It was a little while later, maybe a few days, that I saw him at the corner of Whitener and Caruthers. We were waiting for a bus or something like that. I had this plan in my mind to make a sundial type clock with my computer--in the woodworking class we had been about to learn how to make one with wood, and paint, and beautiful swirling patterns, but I figured I would just skip all that and settle for a functional one that i could make without learning all those skills. Anyway, I asked Chris how it felt to be back, and whether he regretted coming back. And he said, Honestly, frankly, yes, and I said, silently, mouthing the words, I know. And he turned away from me and cried.
