i came home and really really wanted a cup of tea and i can have that and I smell really fucking good like me & patchouli & a good day and wind and the basement DOESN’T SMELL LIKE SMOKE! and everyone else left and it was Lenny & John & Tom & Michael & me, and we sounded good, and Michael played the harmonica like a actual instrument this time, and rugged scruffy Michael has a surprisingly nice voice, and Michael hung around outside RFU to watch my congas while I went and got my car. And Lenny had said earlier this thing, you know how he always has to say something about drumming, he said, any time you hit the drum, even if it’s just this— (thum, thum, thum) —feel the rhythm as you play. Just feel it, and then you’ll be surprised, the more you play, the more rhythm you learn, eventually your hands will start doing other stuff. And that’s true. You can’t reproduce in the lab of your own bedroom the unpredictable nature of what happens when you actually play. But the lab stuff is good though, it will start to make sense, and it will make your hands and brain more ready for the unpredictable stuff. (2015)
