I mean, do the anti-science republicans not ever think about how stupid they're going to look, in retrospect, after Greenland melts away and coasts are unrecognizable, and our entire ecosystem has morphed into—god knows what? Don't they ever stop and think they'll be the ones future history and literature students will look back on and write trite essays about, with theses that all basically boil down to, "those stupid drooling barbarians sure were stoopid, lol"? Or do they really truly just not give a shit because THEY specifically will be dead and gone—ish, close enough, anyway, and it won't be their fucking problem? The "empathy gap" as Dan Savage said? Some people must utterly lack a sense of scale. How could you look at the spidering rivers and the chaos of moulins over Greenland, and not see your own tiny, ridiculous, inevitable death? How could you resist the impulse to zoom out, and recognize the fractal pattern? Time is meaningless; we're already dead. We live in a sidewalk crack that's about to be mega-tsunami'd by a wayward garden hose. One two three, OK, it's over folks. *Enjoy life, bitches. Enjoy it hard and fast and long.* (2015)
