WRITING: not so much writing down exactly what people say, trying to pin it down and remember it exactly like that (just like the point of my classes is not to memorize every key command; those will change as the months and years go by), but to live and listen and breathe, and then when you type you can have an opportunity to animate the little brain people. You know who I'm talking about. You hear their dialogues and exclamations and murmurings all the time. They are the real ones, the ones who cannot give wrong answers. They keep you company, they make you smile, they pop up at the oddest times. That they are born of all the life experience you have taken is not even important at the moment of typing. Because the link from various events to them is not a line. So just let it work under the covers and it will be fine. All you have to do is talk to them, listen to them, and report what they're saying and doing. (1997)
