Holy carp I just figured out what the beast is. During the day, your level of consciousness makes it easier to suppress the truly scary bits. Then you soothe yourself by saying that it's the night that makes them so scary. You're all like, "Oh, I still have problems, but in the light of day I see they're not as horrible as all that!" Then as evening draws down and the quiet threatens, you start to eat and drink and otherwise self-soothe, and you tell yourself it's just because you're tired from a day of making decisions, being responsible, that sort of thing. But that's not quite it, is it. You drink because—Tennessee Williams was right. What you are seeing at night is the unvarnished truth. Your problems ARE as grave as your night vision reveals. So you're scared. *Who wouldn't be?* But instead of using the day as a refuge, use it as an opportunity—to mine, to build, to forage, and to forge alliances. Then the night can be a time to enjoy the refuge that you have built, and to enjoy that you have built it, like in Minecraft, instead of being a refugee—a fugitive—during the day. This is the classic "turning around and facing it." Your problems are huge, but you have resources. You can survive, and even thrive. you can snooze twice, baby. and then we get up. that's how we're going to catch the carp. and then...? PS: night and day aren't necessarily literal terms here; your schedule is up to you. PPS: this doesn't mean you're supposed to live in terror all the livelong day either; just that you aren't going to sever the hemispheres anymore. PPPS: when you shut off the nighttime flow, the girls pay during the day. Your shadow side relentlessly hunts their energy, because you have, out of fear, starved it of yours. (2015)
