We are being used by centuries-old knowledge-holders; we think we're being used by a boss or a leader or a government or a wicked corporation, but that's all little stuff. What we're being used for, long-haul, is as bearers of ancient knowledge. We don't even know what it's for. We don't even know we're teaching ourselves to keep it, to hold on to it, to encase it and preserve it and pass it on. That's the whole main thrust of our piggish little lives. Is just to take care of this knowledge. All the grunting and fucking and straining and hoping and wheedling and jobs and work and heaviness--all the passion and all the plays--it's all in service of this knowledge. This knowledge is a science, an art, it's a deep study of ancient high technology, and we don't even know what it's for. We tell stories, paint pictures, think we know so much, chant sacred texts and dance secret patterns and think it all means so much and think we know the symbolism of it all, we think we understand what metaphor is. Ha. We know nothing. Metaphor is a program to keep us from losing the data and the information. We don't have to understand it, but our brains are related enough to their brains that we think we have to understand it, our brains have to have something to work on so we think we're central to the problem even though we're just the ephemeral pods. So we tell our stories, and learn our stories, and live our stories, and walk and fuck and act and dance out these ancient patterns and dream up all kinds of crazy dreams both asleep and awake to let ourselves think it all makes sense. IT does, but not to us. We are being used. (2017)
