Anne Kranawetter:
How are you doing tonight
Mat Schulte:
feeling kind of productive for a change!
and glad i stood up for my feelings about parenting with the coming out of rooms for a while thing
Anne Kranawetter:
Oh great!
Mat Schulte:
yes and after megan was bitchy, she got better and learned a new piano song
Anne Kranawetter:
You do so much better than I would
Nice
Mat Schulte:
it’s such a balance between basically freaking out, and waiting and trusting a little bit
because i don’t want to turn it into a situation where she doesn’t want to trust me and talk to me
Anne Kranawetter:
That would be tough for me
Mat Schulte:
but i can’t just let her do whatever and be too “chill”
it is tough believe me
but i think i’m getting a bit better at it
Anne Kranawetter:
😊
Mat Schulte:
and guess what—freakishly small world—that 18 yr old from the unit was one of my students last semester!!
so i know his parents’ contact info and address and everything, so that’s kind of nice
Anne Kranawetter:
He isn't as creepy as you feared?
Mat Schulte:
well i don’t know that for sure, but at least i know where to tell the police to go. 😉
i mean it’s probably fine, but you know
Anne Kranawetter:
Such the optimist
Mat Schulte:
again, it’s the trust vs caution dance
and i don’t always want to just react based on societal expectations and preconceptions and blah blah blah
Anne Kranawetter:
Ie life isn't simple
Mat Schulte:
exactly
Anne Kranawetter:
I like it when life is happy and makes sense
That really isn't too much to ask for, is it?
Mat Schulte:
hmmm i don’t know. “95% of everything is crap” after all 😊
Anne Kranawetter:
Where did that quote come from?
Mat Schulte:
theodore sturgeon - favorite old science fiction writer from 50s-60s-70s, but re-quoted and reinterpreted many times!
but the point is that the 5% is worth it, that’s the bit people tend to forget
if you make it worth it you know, keep it all in perspective
Anne Kranawetter:
It is much more than 5% good
Mat Schulte:
See there—now YOU’re the optimist!!
Anne Kranawetter:
But the bad can be so FUCKING HARD
Mat Schulte:
yeah that’s for sure
Anne Kranawetter:
We sure aren't built to break
Mat Schulte:
that reminds me of another fave: “Things that are broken are strong. Things that are about to break are stronger still.”
I’m not even sure what that means.
Anne Kranawetter:
Frankly, I am sick and tired of being strong.
Mat Schulte:
Yeah. You can’t help it though. 😊
Anne Kranawetter:
Technically you can, but that alternative is not a good one.
Mat Schulte:
I meant YOU can’t help it. 😃
Anne Kranawetter:
Why can't we all just get along?
😳
Mat Schulte:
I don’t know. 😢
Anne Kranawetter:
I am so glad you are still my friend
Mat Schulte:
Me too! That’s one of my favorite things in fact.
Anne Kranawetter:
Ditto
We certainly do share a long history. For that I am so thankful
Mat Schulte:
Yep. Like I said the other night, I’m always here for you regardless of whatever else is going on. There’s not too many people I feel comfortable and/or honest saying that to.
Anne Kranawetter:
I feel like of all the people in the world, you and my friend Judy really care for and understand me.
You have always been important to me and I have always cared for you
Mat Schulte:
Ditto!
Anne Kranawetter:
Not too many people you can say "always" about
Mat Schulte:
exactly
Anne Kranawetter:
Jeff was very intimidated by you
Mat Schulte:
I am pretty intimidating.
🦁
Anne Kranawetter:
I guess so
