#magical thinking a surprising amount of parenting can be described by a dichotomy: do the parents want their child to be a thinker, to have integrity, artistic vision, authentic selfhood, and a risky potential for unusual or even revolutionary influence, or do they much rather find solace in a socially buttressed high probability of their child's basic, material success; commonly if not explicitly known as "fitting in"?
