I’m not used to being a professional. Don’t they get it? Shouldn’t they therefore be nicer to me?
The trick to a good interview for an inexperienced professional is: use your questions to them wisely. Sure, interviews are good practice for interviews. But if they can be a source of vital information, so much the better. As soon as that guy explained to me how to work through the catch-22 of experience, I knew there was no way in hell he was going to hire me. But at the same time, my approach to advancing my career underwent a revolution.

Everybody wants to court the poor, or at least not to overtly attack them, because there are so damn many of them, and, at least for now, they can still vote. So if they can’t court them with actual policies, or, god forbid, a share of the money or technology or health care, then they court them with religion or fear or reality tv.
