# gluttony
You don’t need to shoot film in your camera. You need to shoot film in your life. If your typewriter had spewed news and advertisements at you every time you sat down at it, you never would have written anything.
# ARTSY PICTURES THAT DON’T MATTER
You can have as many good teachers as you like
(or don’t like, for that matter);
you’re still going to have to learn how to play your zither ultimately by yourself.
honesty -- honesty in spaces not fully guaranteed to be safe -- is about the most exciting thing I've contemplated in a long while.
# things i want to say you are
endearingly smug
still alive
beautiful but not my type
oblivious (just like me)
always running late
strangely fascinating
like someone from the old country
not as “innocent” as you used to be, i guess, those days when we ducked into a side hall away from the main ballroom and sprawled out on the floor—i still have that fuzzy b&w picture of you—
probably laughing at me now
going to be missed
# threethings 6:10 pm February 3
1. eating and drinking instead of thinking or nothing
2. impulse buying libby clothes at walmart instead of buying a camera
3. feeling kind of wrapped up in a blanket instead of buying an ipad
1. “We learned to fuel it and do whatever it took to please the algorithm.”
2. My neck is stiff and my forehead is furrowed.
3. As soon as education becomes sales, me & my co-workers (who want you to know we love our jobs, but are not quite sure we should reveal just how much) are screwed.
1. “something has gone profoundly awry with the artificial intelligence powering YouTube....”
2. You are missing the point entirely.
3. It’s like a bunch of people downloaded Janusnode, but didn’t realize it was just playing with words.
1. Drunk and high in 2008, I typed a maundering homoerotic missive of ultimate frustration.
2. Somewhere between the top of the “page” and “come on in and rape me if you want to,” there was this: “computers are everywhere and only the old ones are on your side”
3. when they do the double dutch, that’s them dancing!
# threethings 7:21 pm February 1
1. Megan was aware of the Mexican guys putting in the new washing machine when she came downstairs in her blazer and slacks talkin about how good she looked.
2. I saw her being aware of that.
3. Buying a new washer isn’t that much different from buying a new camera, except it’s probably ever so slightly less dumb.
# threethings 10:13 Thursday February 1
1. Millie sipping her coffee in the morning is an object. You can use it as part of your program. It can interact with other libraries that are available to you. How you choose to work it in determines whether it’s insensately annoying or kind of 3D and perfect.
2. That new expensive camera you think you want is a time machine that won’t work. The time you’re trying to travel back to isn’t 3D anymore; it isn’t even “there” anymore. The only 3D pictures you’re going to get are pictures of right now.
3. I’m having the fuckiest of hard times trying to focus on getting ready for the English dept meeting today. I read a sentence and I go all John Crowley all of a sudden; I’m all over the jagged sky. But it sure AF is a privilege to be sitting here with the time and space and permission to be struggling with that!
# metaphors
they break down real fast; they got a short half life
you got to keep making new ones, old ones, the same ones, whatever—over and over again
