You know they discovered a tenth planet. Why are we still worried about lipstick and apartheid? Who gets to be in on these discoveries? What's the password? How do you contribute? What's your part? What's the constituent parts of genius? What's next?
10/10/2017 One thing you get better at as you get older--SOMETIMES MAYBE USUALLY--is recognizing the golden moments as they’re happening. Not having to always “don’t it always seem to go” everything from a vantage point of melancholia.
Tonight was one: Celi was slicing olives. Libby was slicing an avocado. Millie was heating up some lentil chili. Megan was learning the Totoro song on the piano. The doors were open and Terabithia could go in and out as she pleased. It’s raining and there’s plenty of wet leaves everywhere. We’re all right for now. Nobody knows what’s coming around the next bend in the train tracks. It could be pain and disaster and rubble and confusion. If I can learn to time travel, I’ll save this moment, tonight, in a little savings account of golden moments; maybe it’ll help in some small way, later.
